Sedudo Traditional Bathing

This traditional bathing ceremony takes place annually at Sedudo Waterfall. The ceremony is believed by some people that it will give blessings, salvation and enternal youth. The procession begins with a distinguished cultural dance performed by six dancers who are still virgin, have long hair and in a pure state. Then it is followed by a parade comprising the Regent, Muspida official leaders, and religious leaders. They bring incense and flowers to spread under the fall. Next the youths bringing containers take some water from the cascades and they give it to the sif girl dancers who have been waiting nearby. Finally, the dancers hand over the water to a religious leader.

Sedudo Waterfall

Lies in Ngliman village, Sawahan subdistrict 28 km to the south of Nganjuk city at an altitude of 1.438 metres above sea level. The waterfall has a heigh of about 105 m with very cool air, panoramic mountains ang beautiful cliffs. Some people believe that water of Sedudo has supernatural powers; when bathing here they will stay young, easy to get positions, blessings and salvation, especially if done in the month of SURO (the first month of Javanese calendar). In addition the water is also used to clean heirloom objects in a ceremony. Facilities available include bathrooms, food stalls, souvenir shops, a praying room, a resting shelther, a parking lot, and a camping ground. Apart from Sedudo waterfalls, Nganjuk also offers a couple of waterfall Sigokromo and Sadepo with fairly good views.

Lawean Waterfall

Situated in Turi subvillage, Geger village, Sendang subdistrict about 25 km to the west of the city, lies at an altitude of 1,200 meters above sea level. The average temperature here is 18-22°C. to get to the fall, you still have to take a trekking route with cool and panoramic hills views. This 100 metres high waterfall has terraces and some cascades. The myth of Mbok Roro Endang Sampu and Mbok Roro Dewi Gangga is believed that they are the rules of the fall. Closed of the waterfall, there is Pandanwangi waterfall with a vast tea plantation about 1.000 m above sae level.

Coban Rondo waterfall

The other natural attractions to visit is Coban Rondo waterfall at Pujon, 26 km to the west of Malang. The fall is about 60 metres high. The surroundings view is fascinating, and it is cool with a height of 80 metres above sea level. Coban Rondo is equipped with facilities for camping. Other waterfalls namely Glotak and Coban Pelangi are at Poncokusuno in the area of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. The National park lies right in four regencies, namely Malang, Lumajang, Pasuruan, and Probolinggo.
