Sumenep Palace

Lying at the eastern end of Madura Island, Sumenep is one of the main tourist destinations in Madura. The culture of Sumenep is much influenced by Javanese, Arabic, European, and Chinese cultures. This mixture makes Sumenep gives its own colour to Madura. Until now Sumenep’s royal palace from the kings in the past have been intact and well preserved. The palace together with its environment becomes the major attraction in Sumenep. The front building has a Javanesa style: on the contrary, the main building has a Chinese style. Historically in fact, the palace was built by a Chinese architect.

Bhuwana Kerti Willis Temple

Is a place of worship of Hindus in Nganjuk, situated on the mountain slopes with distinctive architecture similar to that in Bali. On certain days, many Hindus attend religious ceremonies, very interesting for tourists. The temple is located in Bajilan village, Loceret subdistrict 23 km to the south of Nganjuk city.

Dr. Soetomo’s Monument

Occupies an area of 3.5 Ha in Ngapeh village, Loceret subdistrict. It is 15 km to the south of Nganjuk city. Right here at this site is the birthplace of Dr. Soetomo. The monument is in the form of a 4 m hight statue, equipped with a Joglo main hall for meetings, workshops, camping, and pringgitan (an extra room between Joglo and the main building)

Tomb of Bung Karno

The attraction frequently visited by many tourist is the Tomb of Bung Karno on Jl. Soekarno Bendogerit, Sanan Wetan subdistrict about 4 km to the north of the downtown. Here is the burial place of Soekarno who proclaimed Indonesia’s independence and he is the first president who established the Republic of Indonesia. Local tour guide service are available at the grave. You can get various kinds of souvenirs in the souvenir shops around the grave. If you go south, you will find a museum and library of Bung Karno showcasting historical memorabilia during his independence struggling period. Many of the books by Bung Karno are housed in this museum. On Jl. Moch. Hatta, to the south of Bumg Karno’s tomb there is a Trade Information Centre that provides information on potential tourism and trade of Blitar city. This information service applies modern base technology: Touch screen and the Internet. Some guides are ready to serve the needs of tourist.

Candi Jawi

Situated in the village of Wates, Prigen subdistrict, Jawi temple was built in the 13th century with a size 24.5 m high 14.2 m long and 9.5 m wide. Another ancient site to visit is Belahan temple in Gempol subdistrict. Historical tombs of Muslim scholars are scattered across pasuruan including the tomb of Ratu Ayu in Bangil subdistrict, the tomb of Mbah Semendhi (Habib Sholeh) in Winongan subdistrict. On a particular day, they are all visited by many pilgrims of Muslim communities. Cheng Hoo at Pandaan is a mosque with Chinese architectural style, similar to a Confucian temple.

Penataran Temple Complex

Is the larges temples complex in East Java. The step by step temple development took about 257 years. The complex is vast and well maintained. The temple building is still relatively intact that is “The Dated Temple”. You can see the inscribed constructions year in Caka year 1291or 1369 AD above the entrance. Every year on 2 August, the stage a classical ballet performance “Pesona Bumi Penataran” (the Enchanting Penataran Land) at the Penataran Recreation Park.

Church Phuhsarang

The old church Phuhsarang in Semen subdistrict is frequently visited by many pilgrims. The church was built by Ir. Hendricus Maclaine Pont, a Dutch architect in 1936. The uniqueness of the building is that the Dutch architect adopted local culture by blending European architecture. For the construction of the church building he used span steel wire as a roof, and the steel wire is linked one by one on the span wire.

Simpang Lima Monument

The shape of SLG building looks like that of Arch D’Triomphe in France. To reach the monument there are 3 underground access tunnels. The SLG area in its further development will have trade and tourism facilities.

Balai Pemuda Building


This Balai Pemuda building is located at 15 Jl. Governor Suryo. It is one of the cultural heritage buildings in Surabaya. At Dutch people. Now the Youth hall serves as a showroom, a conference hall and a tourist information centre. On Sundays, Reyog Ponorogo dance is performed here.

Grahadi Mansion


The building was founded in 1795 by Dirk van Hogendorf, the Dutch authorities at that time. The building at the beginning of its establishment faced the north (facing Kalimas river), but in 1802 it was changed to face the south like the current situation. During the administration of the Dutch East Indies this building used to be Raad van Justitie (Hight Court), and it was also used for parties and receptions. Then from the period of Governor Samadikoen (1949-1957) until now, the mansion which is named “Gedung Grahadi” state building is used for receiving official guests of the Governor of East Java, for a state reception, a ceremony of independence of other state ceremonies.


Majapahit Hotel


The located at Jl. Tunjungan was once the place of the heroic event of tearing the Dutch flag into a red and white flag (Indonesian flag) in the battle for independence in 1945. The 1910 building is still maintained as its original from. It was originally named Hotel Lucas Martin Sarkies (LMS), in the Japanese period it turned to the Yamato Hotel. At present the cultural heritage building becomes Majapahit hotel that bears the classification of a five-star rated hotel.
