Food has
become its own appeal to a place even when it is presented in a special touch
and in a distinctive taste. Nowadays, a culinary product has become something
sought by tourists. Many typical and traditional menus of Surabaya enter
star-rated hotels as well as prestigious restaurants & cafes. Typical foods
of Surabaya for examples : lontong balap (rice cake served with sprouts), rujak
cingur (spicy mix vegetables for salad), lontong kupang (rice cake served with
kupang soup), semanggi suroboyo (clover leaves with peanut sauce for salad),
rawon (black soup), various children snacks are always enjoyed by their fans.
These foods can be found in the Taman Tirta Boga park (opposite the Submarine
Monument), Food Court Urip Sumoharjo, Hallo Surabaya on Jl. Bubutan, and G Walk
Citraland. There are many other typical
food served at the open air concept with high quality food menu. To stimulate
and encourage the development of various food in East Java, there is a special
food contest among cities/regencies in East Java conducted yearly.
